UK Stongly Discourages Texting While Driving - Monday, August 31, 2009

In a public service announcement that has made its way to YouTube, the United Kingdom uses a graphic accident scene to discourage teens from texting while driving. In our country, this public message would probably offend viewers because it uses blood and realistic drama to make its point. Nonetheless, The Florida Firm suspects the message is effective.

If you or a loved one is involved in an automobile accident, call The Florida Firm for free consultation about your legal rights.

Even Hands Free Phones Make for Distracted Drivers - Friday, August 21, 2009

This summer the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) released a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study that found that cell phone use was a serious hazard to motorists. The study indicated that only 2% of drivers were really capable of safely multi-tasking while driving. Even though it is commonly assumed that hands-free cell phones make driving while using the cell phone safer, the study suggests the opposite. The study suggests that, instead, people listening to a cell phone conversation are slower to respond to things they are actually looking at. Some participants in the study were quicker to apply the brakes in response to situations when they were under the influence of alcohol than when they were talking on the cell phone!

Don't use your cell phone while driving. If you must, do your best to pull off the road for a lenghty conversation. And if you're involved in an auto accident, call CGWC for a free consultation about your legal rights before you talk to any insurance company.

Fatigued drivers is the main safety problem in the trucking industry today. Tired truck drivers are a factor in over 40% of all truck accidents. While the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations impose restrictions to prohibit truckers from driving too many hours, it is routine practice for some in the trucking industry to break these "hours of service" rules, falsify driver's logs, and keep drivers on the road as long as they can to increase their profits and revenues. This vast nationwide unchecked epidemic of fatigued truck drivers causes untold deaths and injuries every day all across America.

If you or a loved one has been involved in a truck accident, call CGWC for a free consultation about your legal rights.

Medical Mistakes Kill 98,000 People Each Year - Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Medical mistakes are deadly and all too common. According to experts, more people die every month as a result of preventable medical mistakes, or medical negligence, than died from the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Approximately 98,000 people per year die as a result of medical or nursing malpractice. In addition, the Center for Disease Control estimates another 99,000 die annually from preventable hospital acquired infections.

Yet, hospital CEO's, doctors, and their insurance companies seem to think they should be above the law. Every year they seek more protections from lawsuits by these victims of negligence, and in Florida, they already enjoy limits on the amounts juries can award, as well as a screening system that requires victims to have other doctors or nurses certify that medical negligence occurred before a lawsuit can be filed.

If you or a loved one has been the victim of medical malpractice, call CGWC for a free consultation about your legal rights under Florida's medical malpractice laws.

Contingency Fee Attorneys Even The Playing Fileld Of Justice - Thursday, August 06, 2009

Everyone knows that, generally speaking, you have to have money to pay for legal services. If you're sued by a big company or a wealthy individual, and have to defend yourself, most would not be able to weather the storm. Litigation is expensive. Likewise, suing big companies or big businesses is costly. Cases against product manufacturers, hospitals, or other wealthy interests can literally cost tens of thousand of dollars in expenses alone, not including attorneys' fees.

At CGWC, we are "contingency fee attorneys." This means we do not ask our clients for any money up front to fund their case. We invest our own money on the client's behalf, and in exchange, we charge a percentage of the amount we collect for the client. We are only paid if we win. In a manner of speaking, we gamble on your case. We take a risk on your case by investing our resources and our time to pursue the case, with no guarantee that we will ever be paid a fee or have our expenses reimbursed.

By representing clients under a contingency fee arrangement, we give the keys to the courthouse to everyday people who otherwise would be unable to afford to open the courthouse door and seek justice against powerful special interest groups and big businesses, predominantly insurance companies. Contingency fee lawyers, while reviled by big business and often painted by media as "ambulance chasers", even the playing field of justice for everyday people. And we are proud to do it.

If you or a loved one has been injured or had a claim denied by an insurance company, call CGWC for a free consultation.

Nursing Home Abuse And Neglect Lawyers - Wednesday, August 05, 2009

Sadly, abuse and neglect are all too common in nursing homes, especially here in the retirement capital of the world. Florida's nursing homes have too few skilled and dedicated workers, and too many are undertrained and poorly motivated. Many nursing homes are undercapitalized and poorly supervised and operated by their investor owners and poorly regulated by state inspectors and regulators. The results often mean injuries such as falls, bedsores, dehydration, malnutrition, and medication errors.

If a loved one has been the victim of negligence, neglect, or abuse at a nursing home or assisted living facility, you need an experienced nursing home abuse attorney. For a free consultation, call CGWC.
