Nursing Home Falls Often Deadly

Representing Orlando, the Four Corners, Tampa and Nearby Areas of Florida

According to a new study and article in the Journal of the American Medical Association, death or immobility often follows hip fractures in nursing homes.  According to the study, half of nursing home residents either die or lose the ability to walk within 6 months of a fall resulting in a hip fracture.  Six months after a fall resulting in a hip fracture, one third of such nursing home residents died.  Almost half of those injured were dead within a year.  These statistics are worse than those of elders who fracture hips in falls at home.

Often, falls in nursing homes are preventable.  After all, families admit loved ones in nursing homes to keep them safe from dangers at home, like falls, when their loved ones’ needs are beyond the family’s ability to provide.  If a loved one has been injured in a nursing home, contact us for a free legal consultation and case evaluation.
