Defective Drywall
Orlando, Florida
The premises liability and defective product attorneys at Colling Gilbert Wright & Carter in Orlando have been investigating cases of home and office buildings in Florida allegedly emitting unpleasant odors and experiencing electrical problems. The culprit appears to be defective drywall that was manufactured in China. Most of the homes affected were built in Florida between 2004 and 2006. The defective drywall can pose serious health risks to the residents of these homes and employees in the office buildings. If you or a member of your family has experienced health concerns and you feel your illness may be related to the defective drywall, you may have a valid legal claim.
As you may know, drywall is the protective covering that is used on the interior walls of buildings. The drywall from China that is in question emits an odor that has been compared to the smell of rotten eggs. Because the smell is so bad, homeowners have had to leave their residences. Many homeowners also have reported air-conditioner coils being corroded as well as wiring for computers and other household items.
There was actually a drywall shortage during the real estate boom around 2004, which prompted builders to import drywall from China to keep up with the demand for new homes. Builders ordered the drywall they needed mainly from Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin Oc. Ltd., which is located in China and is a subsidiary of the German-based company Knauf.
Many of the complaints involve homes built by Lennar Homes and Taylor Morrison, although many other builders may also have used this defective drywall.
