Americans Addicted To Cell Phones

Representing Orlando, Tampa, Miami and Nearby Areas of Florida

It seems like we can’t do anything without talking or texting on cell phones these days. Whether we’re spending time with family, having dinner, watching tv, fishing, or walking across the street, it seems most of us have a cell phone glued to our ears.

About 80% of cell phone users admit to using them while driving. About 1/3 of U.S. traffic accidents are attributed to cell phone use while driving. That’s about 1.6 million accidents. Cell phone users are more likely to drift from their lane or miss an exit according to some studies. One study found that driving while using a cell phone, even a hands free device, caused driving impairments that mimicked those of drunken drivers.

So are we addicted? Perhaps. But the studies and research are clear that we all need to put away the cell phone while driving.
