Medical Mistakes Kill 98,000 People Each Year

Representing Orlando, Tampa, Miami and Nearby Areas of Florida

Medical mistakes are deadly and all too common. According to experts, more people die every month as a result of preventable medical mistakes, or medical negligence, than died from the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Approximately 98,000 people per year die as a result of medical or nursing malpractice. In addition, the Center for Disease Control estimates another 99,000 die annually from preventable hospital acquired infections.

Yet, hospital CEO’s, doctors, and their insurance companies seem to think they should be above the law. Every year they seek more protections from lawsuits by these victims of negligence, and in Florida, they already enjoy limits on the amounts juries can award, as well as a screening system that requires victims to have other doctors or nurses certify that medical negligence occurred before a lawsuit can be filed.
