Xarelto®

Xarelto®, the brand name for the anticoagulant rivaroxaban, is the subject of a growing number of lawsuits from patients who have suffered from hemorrhaging since the drug received FDA approval in 2011. As of October 2015, the number of Xarelto® lawsuits nationwide surpasses 1,900 and is quickly approaching 2,000. If you or a loved one has been injured after taking Xarelto®, you owe it to yourself and your family to seek compensation from those responsible. Please contact the Florida defective product attorneys at Colling Gilbert Wright at 407-712-7300 today for your free consultation.

Manufactured by German drug giant Bayer and marketed in the United States by Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Xarelto® has caused uncontrollable bleeding in a number of patients who have taken it. Now the focus of a mounting number of lawsuits, the number of injuries from Xarelto® exceeds that of a similar drug, Pradaxa®, which itself has been under scrutiny for causing hemorrhaging.

There is no antidote for Xarelto®, which means that a patient who starts bleeding uncontrollably will continue to do so until the effects of the drug wear off. Warfarin, another blood thinner can be reversed by treating the patient with Vitamin K, and patients may have requested warfarin had they been informed of the risks of Xarelto®. Despite the known problems with this drug, the makers and distributors of Xarelto® have not issued a recall.

In the absence of a recall, the only way to hold drug companies accountable is through litigation. A successful lawsuit against a company that manufactures dangerous pharmaceuticals may result in compensation for

  • Emergency room visits, hospital stays, and ongoing care.
  • Pain and suffering, both of patients and of the caretakers who look after them.
  • Lost wages due to the inability to work.
  • Funeral and burial expenses, in the event that the drug causes wrongful death.

If you are currently taking Xarelto®, it is advisable to be cautious by

  • Avoiding activities that might cause you to be cut or bruised.
  • Watching out for unusual swelling, bleeding, dizziness, or weakness.
  • Informing medical providers that you are taking Xarelto® before any procedure or examination.

Xarelto® appears to be at least as dangerous as Pradaxa®, which unfortunately means things may get much worse before they start to improve. In the meantime, trust an experienced attorney to stand up for your rights.
