Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over!
Each year the National Traffic Safety Administration holds their semi-yearly national drunk driving enforcement crackdown, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” The 2015 crackdown is set to go into effect from August 21st through September 7th, all across the country. With an increase in the number of people on the roads and drunk driving over the Labor Day weekend, state and local law enforcement agencies are stepping up enforcement in an effort to reduce the number of traffic fatalities.
Drunk driving has become one of the deadliest and most committed crimes across the nation. It is estimated that every hour there are 133 DUI arrests made. In 2013, 10,076 people were killed in drunk driving accidents, that’s one fatality every 51 minutes. This means that approximately one third of all traffic crash fatalities could have been prevented.
The loss of innocent lives is a devastating to all families involved. Additionally, the financial impact that drunk driving takes on our country as a whole exceeds $37 billion annually.
Drunk driving has become a serious epidemic in our country, yet it is one that is preventable.
