Highway Deaths High In 2011
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that over 32,000 Americans died on U.S. highways in 2011. This data comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation‘s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) which is updated annually. Almost 3400 of these deaths involved large trucks in 2011. Over 4300 motorcyclists died. Over 4400 pedestrians lost their lives in traffic accidents. Almost 700 bicyclists were killed. Worse yet, almost 700 victims were children.
