Recall of Darvocet and Darvon Recommended By FDA
An ingredient found commonly in pain medications, Darvocet and Darvon, is known as propoxyphene. First approved in 1957, the ingredient has been used in these medications to treat mild to moderate pain for many years. Recently, the safe use and effects of the medications have been the subject of debate. A recent study found that the use of the medication was associated with significant changes in the electrical activity of the heart. The FDA has now concluded that the overall risks of the medication outweigh its benefits and has suggested the product be removed from the U.S. market. This recall may give rise to legal claims for those injured as a result of the use of these medications.
