Happy Independence Day Weekend!
The Fourth of July in the USA commemorates the date of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Patriots in America declared their independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain on that day 237 years ago. Some of the main reasons for the declaration was that pioneers in America felt their interests were not being fairly represented, that they were being unfairly taxed, and therefore, were being denied their freedom. By declaring their independence, pioneers in American embarked upon the great American experiment of democracy in governing themselves. Now, well over 200 years later, American remains the world’s leader in many endeavors, such as medicine, education, engineering, scientific research and even the exploration of space. But our greatest achievement is our system of justice founded upon the linchpin of the jury system. While not perfect, the American systems of criminal and civil justice are unmatched and the model other governments and people aspire to.
Celebrate American pride and independence this weekend by remembering those who have fought so that we can maintain our freedoms against all tyranny and terrorism. Celebrate safely. Happy Fourth of July from all of us at Colling Gilbert Wright.
