Massive Explosions at Tavares Gas Plant Injure at Least Eight

Representing Orlando, Tampa, Miami and Nearby Areas of Florida

At least eight employees of the Blue Rhino gas plant in Tavares were injured late last night in a series of propane explosions. Four of the injured workers were in critical condition this morning. No fatalities have been reported at this time. There were approximately 53,000 propane tanks where the explosions took place, and residents of the area say a series of massive explosions continued for at least thirty minutes, and the explosions and fire were visible from ten miles away. The local fire chief said that initial findings indicate that the explosions were caused by “human error”.

This is only the most recent in a string of industrial explosions in America. One month ago a natural gas pipeline exploded in rural Louisiana, coming only weeks after the massive, deadly blast at a fertilizer plant in the town of West, Texas. After the proverbial dust settles, these scenarios often turn out to have something very basic in common. Shortcuts that are taken to increase profit margins eventually compromise worker safety. At Colling Gilbert Wright & Carter, our thoughts and prayers are with the injured employees of the Blue Rhino plant in Tavares and their families.
