Two Dozen Injured After Restaurant Deck Collapses into Biscayne Bay
Last night at Shuckers Waterfront Grill in Miami, a crowd gathered to watch the Miami Heat play San Antonio in the NBA Finals. Just before 10pm, the crowded waterfront deck collapsed, sending nearly 100 customers crashing into the waters of Biscayne Bay. The power went out at the same moment that the deck collapsed, so there were scenes of panic as bartenders, passersby, and emergency responders began trying to rescue 100 people in the dark. 24 people were taken to area hospitals to be treated for injuries. The most recent reports indicate that two of the victims are still in critical condition. While it is too early to know what caused the collapse, it seems that the deck may been crowded beyond its capacity, or not built up to safety specifications. We wish a quick recovery for all the individuals who were injured in this sad event last night. Colling Gilbert Wright represent premises liability claims in the state of Florida.
